Very stable software used by best higher ed. institutes

Comentários: Ellucian Banner has provided our students and staff with a single application that manages aspects of course registration, work, bills, payments, grades, academic status.
Single sign on module was extremely helpful

Vantagens:

It is a high-end software. Very stable. It integrates with the Microsoft LDAP. We have been using it for student and employee account management in term of course registration, tax forms, billing, salaries, student employment, grading, transcripts. It has very secure and solid database which is essential for the above mentioned matters.

Desvantagens:

Managing it requires training. It is not easy to administer. The price is very high compared to competing software in the higher education sector.

Good product. . .maybe?

Comentários: Neutral to negative. Massive additional costs during deployment, a tendency to confusion among the supposed "experts" around how basic pieces of the software worked, forced third party software changes that were unnecessary and expensive, and a quote that was clearly lowballed with the expectation that we'd end up paying on the back end for additional products that we didn't know were needed made this whole process less than good.

Vantagens:

We liked the idea of a connected suite that worked with most of our existing software.

Desvantagens:

The consultants were very much at odds with each other and added confusion to the process. It also turns out that it didn't work with our existing software even when the vendors were listed as compatible on the Ellucian partner site. It also turns out that some of our 3rd party software would have worked, but we were told that it wouldn't. In the end the confusion and lack of understanding/ability from Ellucian consultants cost us tens of thousands of additional dollars during our deployment.

Poorly structured. Poorly maintained. Poor.

Vantagens:

None. Its a sloggy product, designed with no consideration to the user.

Desvantagens:

No redeeming qualities. Repeated crashes during most critical time in student advisement and registration.Undermines the ability of our institution to function professionally.

University Accounting

Comentários: Overall we are very satisfied with Ellucian. It provides our business and finance team books that are used for easy reporting and a clean UI interface.

Vantagens:

I have been a user of Ellucian banner for over six years and have been through countless updates. The product keeps improving where I think things are already good, and is quick to address current issues. Our organization loves the fact that we can use a web based version as well. Additionally, the UI is very clean and I can understand what is affecting our balance sheet, income statement, ect., all at a quick glance. Finally, the reports that are generated from Ellucian are very helpful and make it so I can create accurate reconciliations.

Desvantagens:

The one problem we run into with Ellucian is that training to use the product is difficult. Many screens have specific acronyms to access them, which is hard for people to remember. However, they have introduced a search function that allows you to use words and it acts more like a google search, which is helpful to find what you need.

Ellucian for Community College

Comentários: In the beginning I had to constantly keep my list of instructions handy if I wanted to enter a requisition for a purchase order, now its easy because I've done so many. Practice makes perfect!!!!

Vantagens:

I liked how you can add features, customize it for the needs of the institution. I work for a small college and we don't need all the extra features that the larger colleges might implement.

Desvantagens:

It can be a little difficult to navigate for the beginner. Unless the user knows what they want there is a chance of getting lost. Ive been using the software for about 4 years now and i sometimes get lost or have to search for specific information. There is no menu with a list of options. So I guess what I'm saying is that it would be nice if it was more user friendly, easier to navigate.

Used to be better

Comentários: 5-8 years ago Ellucian was a solid product and worked great but since being forced to move to the cloud the quality just isn't the same. Part of this could be all of the changes the Department of Education has implemented over the past couple of years and in that regard Ellucian is doing a good job of adapting.

Vantagens:

When the financial aid module is working it does a pretty good job of what we need it to.

Desvantagens:

Now that we are in 'the cloud' customer service has taken a nosedive and it takes forever to updates installed.

Ellucian SIS does what it is designed to do, store data in a standardized manner.

Comentários: Standardized data. Student lifecycle data storage. Central hub of data for all things related to the student, their experience, and relationships.

Vantagens:

Easy to use and navigate. Validation tables prevent data from being entered incorrectly. Standardized data means consistent reporting outputs and expected values. Covers the entire lifecycle of the student journey so the Ellucian SIS is set up to be the storage space of all student data.

Desvantagens:

Difficult to customize and add fields to the SIS if business processes require it. Can feel overwhelming for new users to learn the system. Very limited ability for most functional users to create their own reports. Usually need to involve report writers with SQL report writing ability. Reporting on multiple areas of the student journey can be difficult when needing to see multiple screens and forms.

Ellucian User for 15+ years

Vantagens:

Since our college gained access to the web-based version of Ellucian (we call it Colleague at our school, too), it has been a lot easier to use.

Desvantagens:

I wish the help feature and other help documents were a little easier to follow. We used to have a gentleman who worked in Admissions & Records that would make PowerPoint presentations and quick guides to help out the Ellucian users.

Ellucian Banner SIS -- Solid Product In Use for Nearly 20 years

Comentários: Been using Banner since 2004 (and SIS since 2005). I serve as the manager of the IT team that supports the student offices that use the product.

Vantagens:

I commend Ellucian for recent updates they have made to the look and feel of the product. I find it now easier to use and easier to support (no more Java needed for the admin side!).

Desvantagens:

The number of Financial Aid releases is challenging. Plus, when we apply them we need to take our Banner Admin pages offline temporarily. It would be better if the Financial Aid releases were isolated so that we could apply them without taking all of Banner down.

It's hard to be vanilla

Comentários: We were in desperate need of an SIS and for the most part, it does serve our needs.

Vantagens:

I like that we have a consortium we can share ideas and code with and have a single voice to Ellucian.

Desvantagens:

Banner INB is very clunky to use - even if you are good at using software in general. It is not a very intuitive product; however, the company is moving in the right direction.

Ellucian was our school's SIS for 15 years

Vantagens:

I wish that I could say what we liked about this software, but there really is not anything to put here.

Desvantagens:

The system was extremely outdated. The portal experience (Luminus) to get in was awful. Even as they try to update that portal experience, it is simply putting cards and widgets where links used to be. But those things break repeatedly. As well, the lack of interconnection inside the system and with external tools is just plain weak. There is a reason Workday is starting to see so many adoptions in the market and that so many schools are switching out student portals for updated, contemporary, mobile friendly, inter-departmental software options.

Use this for University student records, receiving payments, accounts Payables, P/R and financials.

Comentários: With angst and time we get what we need from it.

Vantagens:

Contains a lot of integrated and complex data. From Human Resources, Student Records and Services, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable all in one softward

Desvantagens:

so NOT intuitive or user friendly. We have to have a whole IT department just overseeing the functionality of this software. Users are frustrated in each area - Payroll, Accounts Payables, Student Services... no one seems to feel the software was created for their unique purposes. We keep trying to find the department that loves it...

Easy to use

Comentários: We use this as our database for all alumni and friends.

Vantagens:

It's easy to use and my favorite thing about this software is that I can enter very little info to do a search to find who I'm looking for. The possibilities are endless!

Desvantagens:

When it shows a listing of all the proposals a person has received, I have to pull each one up because there isn't anything about the listing that identifies specific ones. It's a minor irritation

Not always the most user friendly

Vantagens:

The recent upgrades have made it much more user friendly and easier to navigate.

Desvantagens:

Integration with other products can be very glitchy at times. It takes someone with serious knowledge to be able to navigate that process. If you have that, then you're fine. If not, prepare to spend some money on it.

Use HR module on daily basis

Vantagens:

the support for Ellucian is awesome. It took a while to learn how to use Colleague but once I learned my area, it was very useful.

Desvantagens:

it's not intuitive. I wish there was a training that new employees could go to in their area to learn about the Colleague product to help understand how the change I make affects others.

Worked in Ellucian at a community college

Vantagens:

Very user friendly. Screens are very self explanatory making it easier to understand what fields need to be filled out

Desvantagens:

There is a lot of functions that cannot be changed once saved. In leaves it would be beneficial if you could delete something if it was inputted incorrectly

Overall good customer service.

Vantagens:

The community that is always ready to help each other. You can reach out to hundreds of users and get answers.

Desvantagens:

Upgrades can be very time consuming and complex, the reporting is not up to standard and some user functionality is not easy.

Not user friendly

Vantagens:

It keeps all of our student databases, it integrates with our LMS so grades can be transferred without having to be manually typed.

Desvantagens:

The clunky look. It seriously needs to be updated to a modern, easier to use interface.

Reliable and secure

Vantagens:

I like that it is reliable and secure yet it allows me to save my password to log on. Some sites are so secure they do not allow it and it makes it frustrating to sign in and out multiple times.

Desvantagens:

There are times when the system is down due to maintenance. That is only because my university will perform updates at times.

It gets the job done

Vantagens:

Fully operational ERP, many different tools and options

Desvantagens:

The company itself is the worst. Their customer service is abysmal.

Ellucian Colleague

Comentários: All Student Information and tracking, payments, HR, etc.

Vantagens:

It did pull several systems together under one umbrella

Desvantagens:

Every time I turn around, they want more resources over and above the original specs

Banner SIS through Ellucian is a solid piece of software

Comentários: A place to store student data for access across campus.

Vantagens:

Banner allows us to store all of our student information in a campus-wide database in an easy to access system.

Desvantagens:

The Banner interface by Ellucian SIS is difficult to navigate and complicated to edit. The interface is not the easiest to use and is a big detriment with this software.

Recruit

Vantagens:

Implementation of Recruit allowed us to upload applications from a csv file. Our previous software did not have this capability.

Desvantagens:

It doesn't work as well as ellucian told us it would. The functionality and communication to our CMS does not work well. The implementation also took much longer than expected.

Great Higher Education Tool

Vantagens:

I liked the fact that it could house both student and faculty information at the same time. In addition, it allowed you to input information for instructors and move them around if necessary. We used the Banner by Ellucian software and it was useful for our needs

Desvantagens:

Nothing to note. It is good for meeting the needs of an institution.

Great Tracker

Vantagens:

With the new implementation of the Graduate College student tracking has become a higher priority. With this software our department is able to track students from start to finish. We house the most graduate students in our college and it’s been a hassle to maintain . But this program was able to help us identify what was holding students up (Thesis). After this we made changes to our requirements and also implemented a milestone tracker which has help every single student.

Desvantagens:

I have no cons so far. Everything has been great on my end.
